How to View and Analyze Total Revenue Report?

Understanding the difference between total, net, and gross sales is critical for measuring your WooCommerce store’s profitability. The REPORTiT – Advanced Reporting for WooCommerce plugin provides a centralized dashboard with clear KPIs and visual charts, transforming your raw data into an actionable financial story. This guide will walk you through the three main sections of the Revenue report and show you how to customize each one for your specific needs.

How to get the revenue report in the REPORTiT plugin?

  1. To begin, navigate to Revenue > Revenue.

  1. Select Your Date Range: Use the date range picker at the top to analyze a specific period (e.g., “Last Month,” “Year to Date”) or set a custom range. You can also compare this period to the previous one for trend analysis.

  1. Apply Filters if Needed: Use available advanced filters to drill down into a specific data set.

You can filter the revenue report based on:

  • Customer name: Find all transactions for a specific customer.
  • Product name/ SKU/ Category/ Tag/ Attribute: Filter revenue by a specific item, its identifier, or its characteristics.
  • Status: View revenue from orders with a specific status (e.g., Completed, Processing).
  • Order total: Analyze revenue based on order total value.
  • Order item counts: Filter revenue by the number of items in an order.
  • Country/State/ City: Isolate revenue generated from specific geographic locations.
  • Discount value: View revenue based on the discount amount applied.
  • Shipping: Filter revenue by the order shipping method or shipping cost.

For example, you can review the revenue report of the US by choosing Country from the list of filtering options, then selecting the US from the list of countries.

Once the date is set, you can review the revenue report in three different sections:

The Overview & Performance Summary of The Revenue Report

This top section provides a high-level, “at-a-glance” view of your store’s key financial health indicators.

This area displays several important metrics as individual cards. The core data points include:

  • Gross Sales: The total value of all orders before any deductions.
  • Total Refunds: The total amount refunded to customers.
  • Coupons: The total value of discounts applied using coupons.
  • Net Sales: This item depends on the adjusted parameters in the settings. Users can select their preferred deductions to calculate net sales in the Settings.

  • Shipping: The total amount charged for shipping.
  • Taxes: The total amount collected in taxes.
  • Total Sales: The final revenue, calculated as Gross Sales – Refunds – Coupons + Taxes + Shipping.
  • Total Orders: The number of orders placed.
  • Average Order Value (AOV): The average revenue earned per order (Net Sales / Total Orders).
  • Average Per Day: The average value of a selected metric (like Net Sales) per day within the chosen date range. (e.g., Net Sales ÷ number of days in the date range)

You have full control over which metrics are displayed in this section. Click on the “Customize” button on the top right of the report. A panel will slide in, allowing you to mark or unmark the boxes for each of the metrics listed above. This lets you create a personalized overview that shows only the data most important to you.

The Revenue Report Performance Chart

This visual representation helps you quickly identify trends, peaks, and troughs in your sales performance over time.

The chart graphically displays the primary performance metric across your selected date range. You can easily see:

  • Trends: Is your revenue growing, declining, or staying steady?
  • Peaks: Identify your best-performing days, weeks, or months.
  • Comparisons: Visually compare the performance of different periods.

This chart dynamically visualizes the data from the Overview section. Simply, click on any metric to plot its trend.

How to customize the chart?

  • Change the Chart Type: Use the buttons to switch between a Line chart (ideal for showing trends) and a Bar chart (good for comparing discrete values).
  • Change the Interval: Use the dropdown menu to change how the data is grouped. You can view it weekly or monthly.

The Revenue Report Detailed Data Table

This section provides the raw, line-by-line data that powers the summary and the chart, perfect for deep analysis or exporting.

The table presents a detailed breakdown of your revenue data for each day(or the interval you’ve selected). The columns typically include:

  • Date: Day of the transaction.
  • Orders: Number of orders.
  • Gross Sales: Total income before costs.
  • Refunds: Money returned to customers.
  • Coupons: Discount value used.
  • Net Sales: Sales after refunds and discounts.
  • Taxes: Sales tax collected.
  • Shipping: Shipping fees paid.
  • Total Sales: Final collected amount.

How to customize the table report?

  • Show/Hide Columns: Click the small setting icon to reveal a menu where you can mark/unmark columns.

  • Search: Use the “Search” box to find specific entries within the table.
  • Sort Data: Click on any column header arrows to sort the entire table by that metric (e.g., sort by “Total Sales” to see your highest revenue days at the top).
  • Export Data: Use the Download button to download the file in the “CSV” or “Excel” format
